The Planning and Zoning Commission is a seven-member board that meets once a month to hear a wide array of requests concerning property use in the City of Port Allen.

These requests range from residential zoning issues to regulations for building new homes, adding on to existing homes, whether a business can be opened in a particular area, etc.

It is important to note that the primary function of the Planning and Zoning Commission is to hear and discuss zoning issue requests. However, this commission CANNOT grant these requests. The Planning and Zoning Commission will decide whether such requests have merit, and will then submit a recommendation to the City Council for consideration. The City council will actually decide all zoning requests.
